Privacy and cookies

In short

You don't need an account to use datetips. If you want to save favourites, you can sign in with a link we email you. The statistics we collect ourselves are anonymous, and maps, Google Analytics and any ads only load if you say yes in the consent banner.

Account and sign-in

• Magic link sign-in: we store your email address to send the sign-in link and connect your content to your account. The basis is our agreement to provide the service to you.
• Favourites: the places you heart are stored on your account so they follow you across devices.
• Saved Date Match answers: stored only if you press “Save search” yourself.
• Email tips: if you opt in, we store your choice and how often you want email. You can turn it off any time on My page.
• Editor account: only for those of us who run the site.

Account data is kept for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account yourself under “My page” – that removes the account, favourites, saved searches and email choice. From the same page you can download everything we store about you as a single file, without asking us first.

Stored in your browser

• Consent choice: we remember your choice from the banner locally so we don't have to ask every time.
• Sign-in: when signed in, a login token is stored locally on your device.

Anonymous usage statistics

We count page views, which places are opened, which filters are used, Date Match searches and clicks through to maps, websites or booking. We store the page, language, time and any campaign source. We set no cookies for this, store no IP address, no user ID and nothing that can be traced back to you. The basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used. These numbers are deleted automatically after 14 months.

Third parties

• Google Maps: maps load only after you accept optional services. Without consent we show the address and a link to Google Maps. If you open the map, Google may receive your IP address and set cookies.
• Google Analytics: loads only if you consent. It then sets Google cookies and shares usage data with Google.
• Google Fonts: the site's typefaces are loaded from Google, which may then receive your IP address.
• Venue photos: photos from Google are served through our own server, so Google gets no information about you as a visitor.
• Processors: we use Supabase for database and sign-in, Lovable for hosting, and Google for maps, statistics and fonts. Some of these may process data outside the EU/EEA, based on standard contractual clauses.
• Campaign links: links we share may include campaign parameters (utm_source and similar) showing which channel you came from. Stored without personal data.
• Ads: if we show third-party ads, the advertiser may set cookies. This only happens if you consent.

Cookies

Necessary cookies make the site work and don't require consent. Cookies for statistics, maps and ads are only set if you say yes in the banner. You can change your choice any time with “Change consent” in the footer, or clear site data in your browser.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction and data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet). Get in touch to use your rights.
