Take the ferry from Aker Brygge. It only takes ten minutes, but feels like traveling far away from the Oslo hustle. The island has big meadows and beaches. There is plenty of space, so you do not have to sit on top of everyone else even in the summer.
Why it works
The boat trip itself is a little experience. It feels like a proper getaway, even though it is just outside the city center.

Stop by Mathallen first and buy some good cheese and drinks for a picnic.
